Ira Khan gets candid about her relationship with parents Aamir Khan and Reena Dutta.
Ira Khan opened up about her communication with parents regarding her life.
Aamir Khan’s daughter, Ira Khan, has fought with mental health issues for some time, and after her battle, she took the initiative to create awareness and help people come out stronger. Ira is the daughter of Aamir and his ex-wife Reena Dutta. Maintaining that trajectory, Ira recently opened up about navigating her relationship with parents, since she always found it hard to confide in them.
Speaking at India Today conclave, Ira Khan got candid about a question pertaining to whether Aamir Khan was absent during her childhood and whether that had any impact on her rapport with him, “My relationship with both my parents is something that I’ve had to actively work on a lot. Because the relationship with your parents is the most intense relationship you will ever have,” she stated.
She added, “It’s the most complicated relationship you ever have, because you care the most about what they say. So it will trigger you the most. And it’ll also make you the happiest. It is both ways. I think that there were things in my relationship with my mom, and then there were things that were in my relationship with my dad also. I think that because of what I was going through, I was forced to work on those relationships with both of them.”
Admitting that the communication between her and her mother is easier, Ira Khan concluded, “I think that right now, my communication with my mother is slightly easier than with my father. But I communicate with both of them as openly. However, I think in my head, I have this thing that my father is busy, even though he has always said, ‘if you need me, just call me.’ Now I have this thing that my mother’s always busy because she’s taking care of her parents. So at different points in my life, I have felt easier, depending on who’s more busy. But in terms of opening up, I am equally close to both of them.”
Ira is the daughter of Reena Dutta, Aamir’s first wife. With her, he also has a son named Junaid. After his divorce from her in 2002, Aamir married Kiran Rao in 2005 and welcomed their son Azad via surrogacy in 2011.
Last year, Ira Khan and Nupur Shikhare exchanged rings in the presence of their close friends and family members. The intimate ceremony was attended by many including actor Imran Khan, Aamir Khan’s ex-wives Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, and actress Fatima Sana Shaikh.
