The total number of vacancies for judges in Calcutta High Court is 72. Lawyers have been demanding to increase the number of judges in the High Court for a long time. A year ago, they had protested against this. Currently more than 2 lakh cases are pending in Calcutta High Court. Lawyers blamed the low number of judges as the reason why so many cases were not disposed of. Lawyers hope that by increasing the number of judges in the Calcutta High Court, cases will be resolved quickly.

On the other hand, a section of lawyers feel that the infrastructure of the High Court needs to be improved in addition to increasing the number of judges. In this regard, Calcutta High Court lawyer Firdous Samim said, ‘In addition to providing adequate space for the litigants in the Calcutta High Court, it is necessary to solve the problem of drinking water. Moreover, there is a need to provide more number of chairs for senior lawyers in the Ajalas.’
