742 Revellers Held On Festive Days | Kolkata News – Times of India

KOLKATA: Police arrested 742 revellers in the city on Friday and Saturday and seized close to 76 litre of illegal liquor. On Friday alone, 484 people were arrested for creating nuisance.
The traffic police ended up being even more strict, pulling up 760 others on Friday for drink-driving, triple riding, dangerous driving and riding without a helmet — all of which will lead to temporary suspension of licences. A total of 126 motorists were held for drink-driving, 148 for dangerous driving, 158 for triple-riding and another 287 for not wearing helmets, said DC (Traffic) Arijit Sinha.
Police continued its crackdown on Holi too after successfully stopping any fatal accident on Friday. Till Saturday evening, another 350 had been prosecuted. Three spots — Gariahat crossing (40 cases), Mulali (39) and Chingrighata crossing (42) — kept cops on their toes along with Patuli and Silpara (34 cases each).
The city traffic police had set up over 700 pickets across the city. Cops carried out special drives across the city to nab the offenders. A civic volunteer — Khurshid Alam (46) — was injured at the Ganesh Chandra Avenue-CR Avenue crossing after being hit by a bike around 10.40am.
Areas in central Kolkata, such as Entally and Burrabazar, and in the south, like Jadavpur and Patuli had a large number of offenders. Other trouble spots included Ananda Palit Road-Sundari Mohan Avenue crossing, Kalakar Street-Hariram Goenka Street and 0CR Avenue-GC Avenue crossing.
