Suryakumar smashes Cameron Green for 4 sixes in 4 different directions

Suryakumar Yadav’s knocks against Australia in the ongoing series have been a fitting reply to those who questioned his selection for the ODI World Cup 2023.

Suryakuamar Yadav seems to have cracked the code of One Day Internationals as he has been on a roll in the ongoing 3-match ODI series against Australia. A day after smashing a half-century in Mohali, the dynamic batter got a second consecutive 50-plus score on Sunday at Indore’s Holkar Stadium. With the help of six sixes and as many boundaries, Suryakumar scored an unbeaten 72 off 37 deliveries as India posted a colossal 399/5 in 50 overs which is now their highest ODI total against the Aussies.

His knocks against Australia in the ongoing series have been a fitting reply to those who questioned his selection for the ODI World Cup 2023. Suryakumar was under scrutiny for underperforming in the Caribbean ODIs, where he scored 19, 24 and 35 in three games. In fact, he admitted that he needs to uplift his game in the 50-over format. A month later, his innings against Australia in Indore shut all his critics, especially the four consecutive sixes which turned out to be a nightmare for young all-rounder Cameron Green.

Surya clobbered four sixes on the trot to Cameron Green in the 44th over of India’s innings. He hit the first ball of the over – on a length around middle and leg – over deep backward square leg. Green tried changing his length and bowled the next one a tad fuller down the leg side but Suryakumar scooped it over fine leg for yet another maximum.

Green then bowled a slower one outside off but couldn’t stop the Indian batter from lofting it over deep extra cover for the third six in a row. The Aussie all-rounder was visibly frustrated and bowled another fuller delivery only to get hammered for the fourth six over deep mid-wicket.

Suryakumar tried making it six in six but the Green managed to stop him with a short ball. However, the damage was done as India collected 26 runs from that over. The 33-year-old reached his fifty in 25 balls, breaking the previous fastest ODI fifty for India against Australia record set by Virat Kohli off 27 balls in Jaipur in 2013.
