1. Akhilesh’s Over Confidence
Akhilesh’s over-confidence in the entire by-election and the ground work of BJP was visible. He neither went to Rampur nor his stronghold Azamgarh. Did not campaign in both the places. On the other hand, the BJP has thrown its entire army in the campaign. CM Yogi himself campaigned in Azamgarh and Rampur.
Along with the candidates, the BJP also engaged the organization, MLAs, MPs and ministers in the campaign. Union ministers camped. Tell your voters the meaning of victory in the by-election. People understood that there is a BJP government in UP and at the Centre. Therefore, winning BJP will lead to development. So, voted in favor of BJP.

In Rampur, BJP gave ticket to Ghanshyam Lodhi, who was once close to Azam. He was earlier in SP. In such a situation, some vote bank of SP also came in the share of BJP.
On the other hand, in Azamgarh, SP gave ticket to Dinesh Lal Yadav i.e. Nirhua. Nirhua campaigned fiercely. There he broke into the Yadav vote bank. Here BSP had fielded Guddu Jamali. Jamali has a good influence among the local Muslim voters. In such a situation, the SP could not keep its core vote bank united in both the places.

3. Low voting in both the seats is also the reason for the defeat of SP
In comparison to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, there has been a low turnout of 26.16 percent in Rampur and 11.55 percent in Azamgarh. Till the year 2019, 17 Lok Sabha elections were held in Rampur. But the voting percentage has never been so low as it has been this year.
The people of Rampur had voted a lot in the 2019 Lok Sabha and the voting percentage had reached 63.26. However, the highest number of votes were cast in 1967, when the polling percentage stood at 67.16. The voting percentage in this election could reach only 41.01. Senior journalist Parvez Ahmed says that the way BJP’s management and organization fought the elections day and night together. From that he was successful in ousting his voters and the voters of Samajwadi Party could not get out.
SP had fielded Dharmendra Yadav as its candidate from Azamgarh. In the assembly elections, the SP had won all the 10 assemblies of Azamgarh.
4- Muslims were also angry with Azam’s statement on the Nawabs
SP used to win both Azamgarh and Rampur seats on caste equation. About 45% of the voters in Azamgarh are from the Muslim and Yadav castes. The number of Muslim voters in Rampur is only 49%. Journalist Parvez Ahmed says that in Azamgarh, Azam Khan made objectionable statements about the Nawabs there. Somewhere the Muslims got angry with him. Because of this, Muslims belonging to the Nawabs voted for the BJP. Around 25 to 30% of Muslims voted for BJP in Rampur. This was the reason that the margin of defeat of SP there has been more than 40 thousand.
