15,000 Residents Face Water Woes | Ranchi News – Times of India

JAMSHEDPUR: Around 15,000 people living in the Bagbera colony here are facing water woes for over a week now after the filtration plant motor of the drinking water and sanitation department broke down and await repairs.
S K Singh, a resident, said, “We are dependent on piped drinking water but now collecting water in buckets for drinking, cooking and other household chores from adjoining panchayats. But for how can we continue this?” He added that the residents have decided to gherao the department’s local office on March 9 if the supply is not restored.
The mukhiya of Bagbera madhya panchayat, Pratima Munda said, “We are experiencing frequent breakdowns in the supply. However, neither the Gram Jal Swachta Samiti nor the department is looking into our grievances seriously.”
The colony has 1,150 household tap connections while over 400 households illegally source water from the supply lines. “Summer is about to set in and we are starting to face water woes already,” rued Sanjay Kumara resident of Bagbera’s New Colony.
The department’s executive engineer, Jason Horosaid, “The Gram Jal Samiti is responsible for the maintenance of the Bagbera drinking water project. We have agreed to help fix the motor within a couple of days considering the inconvenience faced by the families.”
