Lakhs of people gathered at the event, but no arrangements were made to protect them from the sun.

Eleven people died and 50 were hospitalized due to heatstroke at the Maharashtra Bhushan event in Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai on Sunday. The event was held from 11.30 am to 1 am in a large ground in Navi Mumbai, where the maximum temperature of the day was recorded at 38 degrees.

In this event, Home Minister Amit Shah gave the award to social worker Dattatreya Narayan. Lakhs of his fans attended the event. For all the people to watch and listen to the programme, complete arrangement of audio and video facility was made in the ground, but no shed was made over the arrangement made for the seating of the people. Due to exposure to sun and heat in the event, health of many people deteriorated.

The state government will give a compensation of Rs 5-5 lakh to the family of the deceased.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde went to meet the people admitted to the hospital due to heat wave. On coming out of the hospital, he told the media that 7-8 people had lost their lives in the event, while 50 people were admitted to the hospital due to heat stroke. Out of these 24 people are undergoing treatment, the rest have been discharged. He described the incident as unfortunate and announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased.

Fadnavis tweeted that the government would bear the entire cost of the treatment of all these people. He wrote that it is very sad that some members who participated in the Maharashtra Bhushan Award ceremony died due to heatstroke. We share in the grief of their families.
