Why the new building was built
The current Parliament House was built 96 years ago in 1927. In March 2020, the government told Parliament that the old building was overutilized and was deteriorating. Along with this, there is not enough space in the old building to accommodate the MPs who will increase after the new delimitation of Lok Sabha seats. For this reason a new building is being constructed.
