World Bicycle Day 2022: Anurag Thakur Launches Nationwide Programme Of Cycle Rallies

New Delhi: Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur launched a programme of countrywide cycle rallies from Major Dhyan Chand Stadium Friday on the occasion of World Bicycle Day 2022 in Delhi. Under this initiative, 1.29 lakh youth will cover a distance of 9.68 lakh km in a day by cycling. The purpose of this program is to create awareness about cycling among people so that people can include cycle in their daily routine for fitness.

Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju, Minister for Health & Family Welfare Mansukh Mandviya, MoS for culture and external affairs Meenakshi Lekhi, and MPs Manoj Tiwari, Harsh Vardhan and Ramesh Bidhuri also attended the event.

A total of more than 9.68 lakh kilometres will be covered by 1.29 lakh young cyclists in a single day through this initiative being held on World Bicycle Day. Cycle rallies will be taken out in the capital of 35 states and union territories of the country and at 75 iconic places across the country.

The United Nations General Assembly had announced June 3 to be celebrated as World Bicycle Day and was celebrated for the first time on June 3, 2018.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is celebrating World Bicycle Day under ‘India@75’, Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The Ministry is organising four activities simultaneously in collaboration with two leading youth organisations Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) and National Service Scheme (NSS). These include the launch of World Bicycle Day in Delhi, cycle rallies in 35 state and union territory capitals, 75 famous landmarks of the country and all blocks.
