Woman strangled to death in Thane, cops probe property angle | Thane News – Times of India

Vijaya Baviskar, the deceased

KALYAN: A 58-year-old divorcee was found strangled to death in her Dombivli (E) flat early on Monday. Police said a gold chain, a ring and two bangles were missing from her body.
The deceased, Vijaya Baviskar, lived alone in a rented apartment at Anand Sheela society in Tilak Chowk area as the bungalow where she resided is being redeveloped into a six-storey building. Police said Baviskar was managing her father’s properties, including two shops in a shopping centre, and would share the rent received with her three sisters. Sources said that Baviskar had also split the money received from the redevelopment project with her sisters.
Ajay Abhale, senior inspector of Tilak Nagar police station, said, “We are probing all angles, including robbery and property dispute. We hope to crack the case soon.”
Police suspect the accused is known to the victim as there was no sign of struggle. They are also collecting CCTV footage from the area since the building does not have CCTV cameras. She was last seen by neighbours on Sunday evening distributing til gud laddoos on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.
Police said Baviskar, who got divorced 25 years ago, was found dead by her domestic help, who alerted the Sharmas next door. The neighbours informed Baviskar’s sister, Jaya Sukenkar, who lives nearby. She called the police.
