Uttarakhand is fast moving towards becoming the first state to implement Uniform Civil Code.

In Uttarakhand, the matter of buying land by hiding the identity of some people has come to the fore. Due to which the government has taken strict steps. Now before buying land, the identity of the buyer has to be disclosed. Permission to buy land will be given only after verification of buyers.

Apart from this, CM Pushkar Singh Dhami has talked about the early completion of the Uniform Civil Code. CM says UCC will be completed by June. The committee is preparing a draft for this.

Complaints of illegal occupation of land
There have been several complaints of illegal land grabbing in the hill state. To remove the encroachment, removal of encroachment campaigns were also conducted at the state level. Recently, in the meeting chaired by CM Dhami, a committee has been formed under the leadership of ADG Law and Order. This committee will conduct the campaign to remove encroachment at the state level and a report will also be prepared on a daily basis, which will go directly to the CM.

All states should implement Uniform Civil Code
Now the exercise to implement the Uniform Civil Code has started in the state at the earliest. CM Dhami said that let the Supreme Court’s decision come in the Haldwani encroachment case. We will respect the decision of the court. At the same time, after the draft of the Uniform Civil Code is prepared, the action in this regard will be completed.

CM Dhami said that all the states of the country should implement Uniform Civil Code. It can be implemented on the lines of Uttarakhand.

The drafting committee was formed in May 2022
On May 27, 2022, the Uttarakhand government constituted a five-member committee under the chairmanship of Ranjana Desai to prepare a draft for the UCC in Uttarakhand. Other members of the committee include retired Delhi High Court judge Pramod Kohli, social activist Manu Gaur, retired IAS officer Shatrughan Singh and Doon University Vice-Chancellor Surekha Dangwal. In December last year, the tenure of the panel was extended till May 27, 2023.

What are the advantages of Uniform Civil Code
With the implementation of Uniform Civil Code, people of all communities will be given equal rights. With the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code, the condition of the women of India will improve. The rights of women are limited in the personal law of some communities. In such a situation, if UCC is implemented then women will also get the benefit of taking equal rights. Uniform rules will apply in all matters relating to the rights of women on their father’s property and adoption.

UCC is applicable in Goa from the time of Portuguese government.
The Uniform Civil Code was implemented in Goa from the time of the Portuguese government. In 1961, the Government of Goa was formed with the Uniform Civil Code. Now the government is all set to implement UCC in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. A committee has been constituted for this. However, Uttarakhand is moving fast towards becoming the first state to implement the Uniform Civil Code.
