According to reports, the Chaura bazar has been in place since the 19th century. Anyone who visits Ludhiana, always makes it a point to visit the bazar, as it is known to sell a variety of products at an affordable range. Chaura bazar literally translates to wide market, because the lanes of this place were wide earlier. As time passed by, the streets became narrow due to the increased population of the city; now, every corner of the market bustles with people, making it difficult to pass through the lanes.

Located on the Sutlej river in Ludhiana, the market is made up of hundreds of shops. Reportedly, business worth crores takes place every day at the market. It is closed on Sundays, but crowds can also be seen on this day for the Sunday market. It is also a home to old shops like Lyal Book Depot and Khushi Ram’s Sweet Shop. Customers from surrounding places like Ferozepur, Khanna, Samrala and Nawanshahr also visit the place for shopping. It is also known as the commercial hub of Ludhiana.

Woollen sweaters for boys are available at Rs 350 at this bazar, and you can buy a jacket for Rs 500. According to Babbu, who is the owner of the shop Chaura Bazar Babbu Jacket Store, buying the jackets here is always worth the money. You can buy ladies kurtis and pyjamas in under Rs 400 here; and the shawls, and woollen caps at the price of Rs 150.
