The Supreme Court is to hear on Wednesday five petitions filed by Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde faction on the 54-day political crisis in Maharashtra. A larger bench can be formed before the hearing. In fact, in the last hearing, Chief Justice NV Ramana had indicated this.

Senior advocate Harish Salve will appear for Shinde faction while Kapil Sibb and Abhishek Manu Singhvi will appear for Uddhav faction.

Shinde faction said – petition should be rejected
On Monday, Shinde faction had filed an affidavit, saying that the petition of the Uddhav faction should be dismissed. The Shinde faction said that Uddhav Thackeray had lost majority in the assembly.

There was a democratic split in Shiv Sena, so the court should not interfere in it. Shinde faction said that the decision on Shiv Sena should be taken by the Election Commission. It will not be decided in the court whether the partition is right or not?

In the hearing on July 20, the Shinde faction had said that Uddhav had resigned due to lack of majority.

Uddhav has only 16 MLAs, how are we rebels?
The Shinde faction had argued in the last hearing that Uddhav Thackeray has only 16 MLAs, while we have the support of 39 MLAs. So how did we become rebels? To hear Uddhav’s petition means an insult to the majority. Shinde’s lawyer Salve said that the Prime Minister can also be removed by majority.

Which petitions will be heard in the court?
1. On the petition against the notice of cancellation of membership of 16 rebel MLAs of Shinde faction
2. On the notice of no-confidence motion against Deputy Speaker Narhari Jirwal
3. On the petition against making Shinde the Chief Minister and against the floor test
4. On the petition against the recognition of Shinde faction as a Shiv Sena party in the Legislative Assembly
5. On petition against recognition of Shinde faction as Shiv Sena party in Lok Sabha

Cabinet expansion stalled due to decision
On June 30, along with Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis took oath. Since his swearing in, the program of cabinet expansion has been stuck. There is a possibility of expansion of the cabinet only after the decision on the membership of MLAs.

After the formation of the government, Eknath Shinde has come to Delhi six times in 30 days. But the issue of cabinet expansion has not been resolved yet.
