When Kajol’s Mother Tanuja Slapped Dharmendra After He Tried Flirting With Her – News18

Dharmendra was last seen in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani.

The incident happened when Tanuja and Dharmendra were shooting for Dulal Guha’s 1965 directorial Chand Aur Suraj.

One of the timeless icons of Hindi cinema, Tanuja remains vivacious and sharp-witted with her characteristic charm. These very similar qualities have been passed down to her daughter Kajol which is often evident. But back in the day, the veteran actress opened up on working with Dharmendra and how after a little quarrel the actor turned her Rakhi brother. The actress even had slapped the Sholay actor once and called him Besharam.

Tanuja and Dharmendra were shooting for Dulal Guha’s 1965 directorial Chand Aur Suraj. During that time, he was married to his first wife Prakash Kaur. Tanuja, in a candid conversation with Filmfare in 2014, shared that Dharmendra and she were drinking buddies and would often have great fun. The latter had even introduced his wife Prakash to Tanuja along with Sunny Deol who was five while his daughter Lali was around six months.

“One day he tried to flirt with me. Taken aback, I slapped him and said, ‘Besharam! I know your wife and you have the audacity to flirt with me’. Embarrassed he pleaded, ‘Tanu, meri maa, sorry bolta hoon (I am sorry)! Please make me your brother’,” she shared.

Tanuja continued and shared that she told him that she was happy with her own brother, Jaideep. But after much persuasion from Dharmendra, she took a black thread and tied it around on his wrist.

Meanwhile, the veteran actress got married to Shomu Mukherjee in 1973 and the couple has two daughters, Kajol and Tanishaa. Shomu passed away in 2008 due to a heart attack at the age of 64.

Meanwhile, Dharmendra was last seen in Karan Johar’s directorial Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani. The Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt turned out to be a blockbuster film of the year. The film also stirred controversy over Dharmendra kissing Shabana Azmi on screen.
