WhatsApp told the Supreme Court on Wednesday that people are not bound by its 2021 privacy policy, nor will the work of the app be affected until the new data law comes into force. On this, the court directed WhatsApp to give full page advertisements at least twice in five national newspapers about this, so that people can come to know about it.

Bench of five judges is hearing
The court gave these instructions to the company while hearing the petitions challenging the privacy policy of WhatsApp. On the other hand, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Central Government, said that a new bill will be introduced in the budget session of Parliament. The matter is being heard by a bench of Justice KM Joseph, Justice Ajay Rastogi, Justice Aniruddha Bose, Justice Hrishikesh Roy and Justice CT Ravi Kumar.

Court will hear after introduction of new data protection bill

Advocate Kapil Sibal, appearing for WhatsApp, had also made the same suggestion to the court. The Data Protection Bill is likely to be introduced in the second half of the budget session. The first part of the budget session, which began on February 1, will end on February 14. Whereas, the second part of the session will start from March 12.
