West Bengal to take in 6,000 grads as interns for a year | Kolkata News – Times of India

KOLKATA: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee announced a cabinet decision on Monday that the state government is launching an internship scheme and it will be taking 6,000 interns from now on who have completed their undergraduate studies.
The CM said that the West Bengal Students’ Internship Scheme of 2022 will be for a period of one year. During that time the interns will be posted at government offices in the districts, sub-divisions or blocks. “They will be posted closer to their places of residence and would be paid Rs 5,000 per month. After successful completion of their internship, it will be reviewed,” the CM said. She added that those below 40 years will be able to apply for this internship.
She also said that the students who have completed their course in polytechnics or ITI or equivalent courses will be able to apply for the internship, provided they all have secured 60% marks. The interns will be given scope to interface with the various programmes and projects of the state so that they learn to do social work. They will get a year-long internship and will be reviewed. Those who perform well can even continue further.
The intending candidates can apply online and then it will be screened by a selection board headed by chief secretary H K Dwivedi. Thus, every year 6,000 interns will work in government schemes and learn how the government functions and they will also be used in catering services to the people. If there are more deserving candidates, then they can be selected by phases also and the chief secretary will have to determine the selection process. The CM also asked officials to coordinate with the education department as well.
She said that the selected candidates will be deputed in offices of state government and even government undertakings. On successful completion they will get certificates and ranking and grading which will be beneficial for their studies and getting jobs, the CM said.
