West Bengal: Teen vaccinated twice in a day | Kolkata News – Times of India

MIDNAPORE: The West Midnapore health officials on Tuesday started probe after a Class-IX student was given two doses of vaccine in quick succession in a camp at Debra’s Aloke Kendra Higher Secondary school on Monday. The student underwent a medical examination at a Debra hospital and is doing well, health officials said.
According to the student Umesh Parh, he had gone to the school vaccination camp on Monday. “There were two counters. During tiffin break, I had stepped into one and was given a vaccine and handed a slip. I stepped out when an official from the second counter wanted to know whether I had my vaccine. I said yes, but they took the slip and gave me a second dose. They thought I was scared and said yes,” he said.
Umesh’s father Uttam Kumar Parh said, “Once we heard of it, we immediately informed the school and sought help. If anything happens the school will be solely responsible.”
School principal Nikhil Mondal said, “The matter has been reported to us. We had contacted the health officials. He was initially checked and found to be stable in all parameters. Today morning, he had been asked to go to Debra hospital for a complete check-up. Till now he is fine.”
“A probe is being done. We have learnt that the student was loitering near the vaccine counter after receiving his first dose.” Mondal added.
West Midnapore’s chief medical officer Bhuban Chandra Hansda said, “The matter has come to our notice. A probe has been ordered to find out how this happened in the first place. The student is undergoing check-up and all his parameters are fine till now.”
