West Bengal: Over a lakh in 15-18 age group jabbed on day 1 | Kolkata News – Times of India

KOLKATA: Around one lakh teenagers in the 15-18 year age group were vaccinated in Bengal on Monday. The numbers may rise with several private schools launching their on-campus vaccination drives from Tuesday. “On first day, 1,02,837 doses were administered,” said Ajay Chakraborty, director of health services.
On Monday, the drive started in several private hospitals, KMC clinics and 16 schools in Kolkata. A virtual meeting was held on Monday in which senior state officers spoke to principals of nearly 43 schools including many private schools affiliated to CISCE and CBSE board on the on-campus vaccination rollout. The state has set schools a daily target of 200, and if needed one big school will be used for all schools in the vicinity.
Class-XI student Sandipan Bhattacharyya is quite hopeful that after the vaccination he would be able to attend physical classes. Madhubanti Bhowmik, a Class-X student, said, “I was quite anxious about the infection, finally I’m also vaccinated. Now schools will reopen again.” Both had come to the Town School for their vaccination.
Even parents are quite relieved. Sunita Majhi, parent of Class-X student from Gi- rish Park area, said, “Hopefully, after the vaccination there will be no obstruction to continuing physical classes.”
138 students had turned up in Bethune Collegiate School. Sakhawat Memorial had asked 100 students to come for vaccination on Monday, but it plans to vaccinate 430 more for the next two days.
Rajendra Siksha Niketan near Anwar Shah Road allowed students of three other schools to join the drive.
While some KMC Covaxin centres recorded good turnout others had very few takers.
