Dewald Brevis is basking in his reputation as the next big thing in international cricket. The 19-year-old South African hit five sixes in just six balls to remain unbeaten on 30 for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League 2022 on Thursday.
His blitz guided the Patriots to 163/6, which proved to be enough for them to beat Trinbago Knight Riders by seven runs and keep alive their hopes of a place in the CPL 2022 final. After the dismissal of Darren Bravo, in the 18th over, Brevis came to bat very late in the innings.
Leg-by for a single off his first ball and then Brevis hit three consecutive sixes in the next over off Akeel Hossein. He then faced the last two balls of the Patriots’ innings and hit two more sixes with an impressive strike-rate of 500.

Brevis rose to prominence in the Under-19s earlier this year World Cup in the West Indies where he finished as the top scorer and also won the Player of the Tournament award. His shot making bears a striking resemblance to South African legend AB de Villiers, due to which he came to be known as ‘Baby AB’.
He was soon bought by five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians. Although he played just seven matches for MI in IPL 2022, he scored 161 runs at a strike rate of 142.47.
