Windows 10 support ends in October 2025 after which Microsoft’s full focus will be on Windows 11 features and AI tools.

Microsoft is happy for you to use Windows 10 after 2025 but for a small fee

Microsoft will pull the plug on Windows 10 version in less than 12 months from now. But the company has shared some good news for those who don’t plan to take the Windows 11 upgrade. Microsoft’s Windows 10 deadline ends in October, after which, you will need to pay extra to use the outdated version for your PC and finally, we know the cost involved in making it happen.

The company knows that many businesses are still running on Windows 10 and getting them to upgrade might not be possible, so a small fee to keep them using the older version won’t be the worst idea after all.

Windows 10 Lives On But Not Free

Microsoft’s decision to extend Windows 10 support will bring relief to millions, especially when they can prolong their existing PCs with an yearly fee of $30 (Rs 2,520 approx) which most people will be happy to pay, if they can avoid paying lakhs for a new system altogether. This setup is known as Extended Security Updates (ESU), which allows Microsoft to push critical updates for these paying customers after October 2025 when Windows 10 officially loses support for new features.

The company is mostly targeting the business segment with the ESU program, which allows its enterprise customers to keep their business running without any down time because of Windows support. Microsoft is expected to have a similar offering for the personal consumers as well, but that will most likely be announced closer to the deadline next year.

Either way, consumers with PCs that will not be eligible for the Windows 11 upgrade will be happy to pay the extra 2 grand to keep using Windows 10 in its official capacity rather than pay big to buy a new Windows 11 machine. With the whole AI PC revolution taking place, a proper Windows 11 laptop will cost you well over Rs 1 lakh, which brings the MacBooks into the equation for people who are looking to buy a new PC for their personal use.
