The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has given a clarification regarding the death of the son of a senior IAS officer caught in a corruption case. Vigilance DSP Ajay Kumar said that we had come back after raiding. After that Karthik shot himself. After reaching the office, we came to know that such an incident had happened. He called it sad. He said that the Chandigarh Police will investigate it. After which it will be known why Karthik shot himself?.
Karthik’s mother alleged that there was an argument during the vigilance raid and her son was shot.

The DSP said that Sanjay Popli had revealed during interrogation that gold and silver were kept hidden in his house. After taking his statement, we first went to the Chandigarh Police Station. Reported there. Note down the name of the raiding party. Then we reached Popli’s house with a sub-inspector from there. We did not go inside Popli’s house. There was a store room in his courtyard. From where we recovered and returned.

Did not inquire with Karthik, he used to come to meet him
According to Vigilance, there was no questioning of Sanjay Popli’s son Karthik. He always used to come to meet his father. He used to sit for many hours. If we had got less remand, there would have been more interrogation. So whenever we had some time, we used to introduce him. Even today we have not called him for questioning.
