Vigilance action on GST Joint Director Balveer Virdi: Disproportionate assets case; Earned 3 crores in 13 years, spent 5 crores

Punjab Vigilance has clamped down on Joint Director of Excise Department, Balveer Kumar Virdi. Vigilance has registered a case of disproportionate assets and expenditure against Virdi. Virdi currently looks after the GST department in the excise department. Vigilance has found in its investigation that Virdi has spent Rs 3.03 crore more than the actual income.

Vigilance spokesperson said that it has come to the investigation that from the year 1 April 2007 to 11 September 2020, the actual income of Balveer Virdi from all resources was 2,08,84,863.37. While Rs 5,12,51,688.37 has been spent on the movable and immovable assets he has created. Virdi has spent Rs 3,03,66,825 more than his income. Whereas an increase of 145.40 percent was found in his income.

There was a scam in GST collection
A Vigilance spokesperson said that Joint Director Balveer Kumar Virdi, a resident of Lamma Pind, Jalandhar, who looks after the GST Department in the Excise Department, and some other officials had also rigged the collection of GST. They have done scam in GST in connivance with some transporters, traders and industrialists.

Virdi and his associates have been booked under sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, 120B of the Indian Penal Code and sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act on 21 August 2020 for falsifying documents by conspiring to scam in GST. Case was registered under.

Virdi continued to join the investigation
Vigilance spokesperson said that on the instructions of the High Court, Joint Director Balveer Kumar Virdi has been participating in the investigation. But when he comes to know that all the secrets are out in the open and Vigilance can arrest him, he absconds. The vigilance official said raids are on and he would be nabbed soon.
