Rampur Police has ordered a probe into the demolition of the house of a murder accused on Wednesday. People allege that the police have demolished the house. But the local circle officer claimed that he had no role in this. A video of the demolition was widely shared on social media in which a bulldozer is seen demolishing the house.
Superintendent of Police (Rampur) Ankit Mittal confirmed that the demolition of the house of the accused is on.
According to police, a group of men opened fire on 35-year-old businessman Waseem outside his house on Tuesday in Lalpur Kala village under Tanda police station.
While Wasim died, his uncle Haroon, a former village headman, and another resident of the area were shot.
In a complaint to the police, Wasim’s family has accused neighbor Shaukat and his three sons of hatching a conspiracy to murder. Shaukat and his one son Junaid are currently in jail in another case.
Police say that the murder was the result of political rivalry.
Waseem’s cousin Shakeel Ahmed said the tension between Shaukat and Waseem has been brewing since last year’s panchayat elections when Shaukat’s wife Noorjahan lost the election to Wasim’s sister-in-law Tabassum.
According to Shakeel, Shaukat’s family had fled the village after the police arrived to arrest his sons. The police called a bulldozer about an hour after reaching the village and demolished Shaukat’s house. Everyone in the village witnessed the incident,” said Shakeel Ahmed.
However, the police have denied the allegation. Local circle officer Shrikant Prajapati said, “The residents of the area demolished the building.”
Meanwhile, the police have arrested two persons in connection with the murder. Station House Officer (Tanda) Gaurav Singh Yadav said Haroon and Rahat, both relatives of Shaukat, have been arrested from Delhi. “They tried to escape while being brought from Delhi. The escort team acted swiftly and opened fire in which they were injured. He has been shot in the leg and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.”
