Uttar Pradesh elections: BJP denies ticket to speaker Dixit, minister Swati Singh | Lucknow News – Times of India

LUCKNOW: The Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded Rajeshwar Singh, the former joint director of ED, from Sarojininagar seat of Lucknow, denying a ticket to minister Swati Singh. The party’s eighth list with 17 names, released on Tuesday, has a couple of more surprises.
From Bhagwant Nagar in Unnao, the BJP has denied ticket to Speaker and veteran BJP MLA Hriday Narain Dixit. He was replaced by Ashutosh Shukla. Law minister Brajesh Pathak, who had won from Lucknow Central in 2017, has been shifted to Lucknow Cantonment, the constituency which was eyed by a number of candidates, including sitting MLA Suresh Tiwari and Mulayam Singh Yadav’s daughter-in-law Aparna yadav, who quit SP to join BJP recently.
In another surprise, Rajnish Gupta was fielded from Lucknow Central. There were speculations that Pathak’s seat would be changed. Sources said that Pathak was initially willing to contest from Lucknow Cantonment, however, because of too many contenders in the fray from the seat, BJP insiders were not sure of him getting the ticket.
Among those who were able to retain their seats are urban development minister Ashutosh Tandon, Neeraj Bora from Lucknow North and Jaya Devi, wife of Union Minister Kaushal Kishore from Malihabad.
After much deliberation, Lucknow West has gone to Anjani Srivastava, a loyal BJP worker for years. However, Avinash Trivedi from Bakshi Ka Talab has also been denied the ticket this time just like Suresh Tiwari from Lucknow Cantonment
Yogesh Shukla has managed to get the ticket from Bakshi Ka Talab in place of Trivedi. Similarly, Amresh Kumar has managed to get the ticket from Mohanlalganj assembly constituency.
The BJP sprung surprises outside Lucknow also as it has decided to field Manish Rawat, who switched over from Samajwadi Party to BJP only a few days back, from Sidhauli. Rawat is the son-in-law of former Samajwadi Party MP Sushila Saroj. Interestingly, Samajwadi Party has fielded Anurag Bhadauria, who is also son-in-law of Sushila Saroj, as candidate from Lucknow East.
In yet another surprise, the BJP has fielded UP BJP general secretary and Awadh region in charge Amarpal Maurya from Unchahaar. Maurya would challenge former minister in the Akhilesh government, Manoj Pandey.
In the neighbouring district of Sitapur, the party has retained Shashank Trivedi from Maholi and has given ticket to Rakesh Rathore ‘Guru’ from Sitapur Sadar. Among others, minister in the Yogi government, Chandrika Prasad Upadhyaya, has been retained from Chitrakoot.
