Uttar Pradesh: Covid-19 claims 6 lives, 6,400 new cases | Lucknow News – Times of India

LUCKNOW: After a gap of several months, the state recorded six deaths due to Covid-19 on Saturday. As many as 6,411 new cases were also detected in the past 24 hours but the recoveries were low at just 171.
The total number of active cases in the state went up to 18,551 obligating the urgent need to adhere to the Covid-19 prevention norms strictly in individual and social interest.
As per the official Covid-19 status report, two deaths were recorded in Meerut, besides one each in Agra, Gorakhpur, Lakhimpur Kheri and Auraiya.
Among all districts, Gautam Budh Nagar saw 1,141 new cases, followed by Lucknow where 876 cases were registered.
Besides these, Ghaziabad and Meerut saw more than 600 cases while more than 100 cases were detected in 10 more districts.
In terms of active cases, Gautam Budh Nagar, Ghaziabad, and Lucknow have over 2,500 cases now.
ACS, health and family welfare, Amit Mohan said that everyone, particularly the vulnerable group comprising elderly, children, pregnant women, and those with co-morbid conditions, must follow Covid-19 appropriate behaviour even though indications are that the active variant is less lethal than delta.
Experts said more than 60% of the cases in UP are due to the delta variant which may cause life threatening complications.
