US Presidential Election 2024: Joe Biden Confirms Kamala Harris As Running Mate On Re-Election

New Delhi: US President Joe Biden said that Vice President Kamala Harris will be his running mate in the 2024 presidential election if he contests the election again.

“She’s going to be my running mate,” Biden was quoted as saying during a press conference held on Wednesday to mark the first year of his presidency.

Harris had said in mid-December that she and Biden had not yet discussed the 2024 election. There was speculation that she may not be in the running for the White House if Biden chose not to stand for office again.

Harris was asked about the possibility of Biden running again, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal (WSJ). She said: “I don’t think about it, nor have we talked about it.”

Harris made history as the first woman and first Black and Asian American person to be ever sworn in as Vice President.

She was born in Oakland, California, to parents who emigrated from India and Jamaica.

When Biden was asked in the press conference if he was satisfied with Harris’ work on voting rights, he defended her record on tackling voting rights. “I did put her in charge. I think she’s doing a good job,” Biden was quoted as saying by media reports.

The Congress is being pressed by Biden to pass two major bills broadening access to the ballot box, placing more onerous conditions on states attempting to change voting laws and protecting election officials from undue influence.
