On February 20, Australia announced plans to build its largest navy since the World War II. Canberra allocated more than $35 billion for the defence project over the next 10 years in a bid to double its warships fleet. The announcement came after a massive build-up of firepower by rivals China and Russia amid growing confrontation with US-led allies. The Royal Australian Navy will expand its fleet of warships from 11 to 26 vessels, the largest since the end of the Second World War.
