IMA Chief Demands to Declare Hospitals as Safe Zones, Give Dignified Compensation to Kolkata Victim’s Family

In response to the horrific rape and murder of a trainee medical student and vandalism at RG Kar medical college in Kolkata, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) declared a 24-hour nationwide withdrawal of non-emergency medical services (from 6 am on Saturday to 6 am on Sunday). IMA chief Dr R V Asokan, during the protest, demanded that all hospitals should be declared safe zones like airports so that doctors can work without fear across the country. Secondly, the IMA Chief added that there should be a central law to check violence against healthcare workers. In addition to that, the he demanded that the victim’s family should be given decent and dignified compensation.

ISRO Aims To Hold First Gaganyaan Mission Launch by December: Chairman

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has targeted launching the first mission of the ambitious Gaganyaan project by December, said ISRO Chief Somath. As of now, some of the rocket hardware for the human space programme has reached the Satish Dhawan Space Centre here, and the integration of the crew module is going on at Trivandrum’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, ISRO Chairman S Somanath said. He added that they are working on the first mission of the Gaganyaan called G1, the first unmanned mission. The current status is that the rocket, the S200 stage, the L1 and the C32 stage are all at Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

Union Cabinet Permits 3 Metro Rail Projects Worth Over Rs 30,000 Crore In Pune, Thane and Bengaluru

The Union Cabinet permitted three metro rail projects in the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra worth Rs 30,765 crore. Moreover, the Cabinet has approved two corridors of Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase 3. The corridor, worth Rs 15,611 crore, will be operational by 2029. Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase 3 will add around 44.65 km of new metro lines. The first corridor will run between JP Nagar 4th Phase and Kempapura across 21 stations, and the second one will run from Hosahalli to Kadabagere across 9 stations.

SEBI States All but One Probe Against Adani Complete

In response to US short-seller Hindenburg Research’s accusation that SEBI was going slow on the investigation —possibly because its chairperson had invested in funds at the center of the probe — the board announced that it had completed all but one investigation into the allegations made against the Adani group. Moreover, the market regulator head called the allegation ‘baseless’ and described it as an attempt at ‘character assassination.’ The regulator, SEBI, said in a statement that it has duly investigated the charges made by Hindenburg in its devastating report against the Adani group in January 2023, which included employing offshore investment funds to boost the stock price and non-disclosure of related party interest.

Tungabhadra Dam in Distress, Officials Claim the Situation as ‘Nothing Alarming’

Located in Hospet, Karnataka, the 71-year-old Tungabhadra Dam is in distress. Hours after the BJP-JDS ‘padayatra’ demanding CM Siddaramaiah’s resignation concluded, the opposition has found a new topic to target the ruling Congress party, despite officials claiming the situation is not alarming. There are concerns about the possibility of flooding in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, two of the three states that share water from the Tungabhadra Dam, after a 71-year-old chain of one of the 32 crest gates broke late on Saturday night, resulting in the release of thousands of cusecs of water.
