All government and private schools for Classes 1-8 will remain closed on Friday across Noida and Greater Noida in Gautam Buddh Nagar district due to a heavy rains alert issued by the weather department, an order issued by District Magistrate Suhas LY on Thursday said. The continuous downpour throughout the day also caused a chock-a-block situation at various intersections and key stretches of the city, sending the traffic haywire.

An official order reads, “On September 23, all schools from class 1 to 8 in the district would remain closed.” Parts of Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region (NCR) witnessed heavy rainfall. Some areas have also reported a loss of lives and property due to the downpour.

The rains just before the withdrawal of monsoon from the NCR will help cover the large deficit (46 per cent till September 22 morning) to some extent, the weather department said, adding that it would also keep the air clean and the temperature in check.
