Up Clocks 55.13% Turnout In 7th Leg As Assembly Elections Reach Climax | Varanasi News – Times of India

Varanasi: Curtains came down on UP assembly elections when polling for the seventh and last phase passed off largely peacefully on Monday and the fate of the 613 candidates in 54 assembly seats of nine districts of Varanasi region were sealed in EVMs.
Barring some violent clashes after the end of polling hours in Azamgarh and Ghazipur, polling remained peaceful amidst tight security arrangements in Varanasi, Jaunpur, Chandauli, Want toMirzapur, Sonbhadra and Bhadohi.
Till 5pm, over 54 per cent voter turnout was recorded. Voting started at 7 am. It ended at 4 pm in Chakia (Chandauli), robertsganj and the Duddhi (Sonbhadra) seats, while in the rest of the segments, it continued till 6 pm. The districts which went to polls this phase included Azamgarh, Mau, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Bhadohi and Sonbhadra.
The voting percentage till 5 pm was 54.18 per cent, according to the Election Commission’s ‘Voter Turnout’ application.
