UP: Bus overturns and falls into trench in Barabanki, 2 dead | Lucknow News – Times of India

LUCKNOW: Two people were killed while 24 others were injured when a UPSRTC bus overturned and plunged into a trench in Uttar Pradesh‘s barabanki on Monday afternoon.
The bus was travelling from Gonda to Lucknow and carrying passengers from Sitapur, Balrampur, Ramnagar, Gonda, and Shravasti.
The deceased were identified as Brijesh Tripathi, 30, of Balrampur and Narendra Kumar, 33, of Sitapur. The injured were admitted to Barabanki district hospital.
Police said the bus had 30 passengers. It was on Gonda-Barabanki highway around 2pm when the bus driver tried to overtake a small carriage van. However, since the bus was speeding the driver lost control over the steering and the vehicle overturned and fell into a 15-foot deep trench.
Passersby and the locals rushed to rescue the passengers and informed the police.
Superintendent of police, Barabanki, Anurag Vats, said bodies of two men were pulled out from the damaged bus. Some passengers, who suffered minor injuries were provided first-aid and sent home in other vehicles, he said.
“An FIR is being registered and we are looking into every aspect, while the UPSRTC will examine the fitness of the bus,” the SP said.
Aman Gupta, 27 and his wife Shweta, 23, and son Vasu 2, were also injured. He told TOI: “There was a sudden jerk. Vasu was tossed on the floor of the bus while I also fell on the floor while my wife’s head smashed into the front seat leaving her unconscious,” he said.
