The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UPMSP) commenced the High School (Class 10) and Intermediate (Class 12) board exams 2024 on February 22, implementing stringent security measures to prevent any unfair practices by students. On February 28, a surprising development unfolded as more than 62 thousand candidates remained absent from the high school and intermediate examinations of the UP Board. This notable absence, particularly in the Sanskrit and Economics papers, is attributed to the stringent measures implemented.

Previously, reports had indicated that on the first day of the UP Board exams, 16 per cent of students, totalling 3,33,541 candidates, did not appear in both shifts. Beyond this mass absenteeism, the spotlight falls on an incident in Gonda where three students, two of whom were writing the high school exam, were apprehended for attempting to take the exam on behalf of others.

Board Secretary Dibyakant Shukla revealed that three imposter candidates were caught during Wednesday’s examination in Gonda, leading to the filing of an FIR against all involved. Furthermore, directives have been issued to take appropriate action against the examination centre’s administrator responsible for overseeing the proceedings where these three individuals were apprehended.

The UP Board’s Class 10 and Class 12 exams, initiated on February 22, are scheduled to conclude on March 9. The examination process has been organised into two shifts, with exam halls equipped with CCTV cameras and voice recorders to maintain a vigilant eye and ensure the prevention of malpractices or instances of cheating.
