Unique Ganesh Pandal By Gujarat Police ‘SHE Team’ Highlights Efforts To Ensure Women Safety

The all-women ‘SHE’ Team of the Gujarat Police installed a unique pandal for Ganesh Chaturthi on Saturday which depicted their efforts in ensuring the safety of women. The team attends to distress calls and complaints from women and stands for Safety, Health and Environment. The pandal showcased a miniature version of a police station with women officers and also showed women from different walks of life going about their daily lives. In the middle, stood tall an idol of Lord Ganesh.

The pandal, in a creative manner, used dolls to show the unit in action — keeping elderly women and children safe. Another scene showcased women in a marketplace with two SHE team cops keeping a watch.

Another pandal had an idol of Ganesh dressed up in police attire surrounded by several posters and billboards with instructions on how to avoid cyber fraud. This was created by the Cyber Cell Surat Police, which shares a message about the dangers of cyber fraud.

This year, the most popular theme for Ganesh Pandals has been the Indian Space Research Organisation’s successful Chandrayaan-3 mission. Agrasen Yuva Mandal in Hyderabad created the replica of the Moon mission and the mission’s lander module Vikram and six-wheeled rover Pragyan.

The team have also wished the Indian Cricket team for the upcoming ICC World Cup through their creation. The whole set was created using cloth, foam and cardboard, Another tool they used was a toy car.

The SHE Team

Last week, Gujarat’s Surat announced that every police station would have a SHE team. The key motive of this initiative is to encourage women to approach the police. The unit will focus on providing a conducive environment for women to file a complaint or narrate their harrowing experiences.

The team conducted several awareness programs which focused on topics such as good touch and bad touch (for school students), traffic advisory, cyber awareness, and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) related cases.
