Rishi Sunak scripted history by becoming the first Indian-origin prime minister of the United Kingdom. Sunak’s elevation as Britain’s prime minister has sparked a frenzy in India. Several celebrities in India are cheering for him on social media. Now, a delightful throwback picture of Rishi Sunak has surfaced on social media. In the picture, the 42-year-old can be seen posing with Sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan, Ayaan Ali Bangash, Sonam Kapoor, and Anand Ahuja. Sarod player Ayaan Ali Bangash posted the photo on Instagram with a caption that read, “Many many congratulations British prime minister Rishi Sunak.”

Soon after the photos surfaced online, internet users rallied in the comments section to share their reactions. Author Malavika Sangghvi wrote, “Lovely picture, so much talent, so many old friends… but is it only me who thinks Rishi Sunak comes across as a one-dimensional cardboard cut-out of himself in every picture?”
Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan also congratulated Rishi Sunak in his own style. Big B shared an uber-cool of himself in a black tracksuit on Instagram and wrote, “Jai Bharat, now the UK finally has a new viceroy as its Prime Minister from the Mother Country.”
Rishi Sunak won the Conservative Party leadership contest to replace Liz Truss. Consequently, he met King Charles III on Tuesday when the British monarch asked Sunak to form a government. After his meeting with the King, Sunak addressed the country. He assured that he will fix the mistakes of his predecessor and resurrect the UK from the economic crisis.
Rishi Sunak’s ascent as the leader of the Tory party is significant as he is the first person of colour to become prime minister in British history.
Sunak’s parents are of Indian descent and migrated from East Africa to the UK in the 1960s. His father, Yashvir Sunak, was a National Health Service general practitioner and his mother, Usha Sunak, ran a pharmacy. Rishi Sunak is married to Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy’s daughter Akshata Murty.
