A Jammu court has framed charges against a journalist and research scholar for writing an anti-national article. They were charged under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA). The charges were framed on Thursday by Special Judge Ashwini Kumar, appointed under the NIA Act, an official said.
Journalist Peerzada Fahad Shah and Kashmir University scholar Abdul Ala Fazili were arrested in this case. Abdul Fazili wrote an article ‘The shackles of slavery will break’. This article was published by journalist Fahad Shah in his website ‘Kashmir Wala’.
Fahad Shah, the editor of ‘The Kashmir Wala’ news website, was arrested by the Pulwama police in February last year.
Promoted terrorism through articles
The officer associated with the case said, both of them used to promote terrorism through their articles. Used to glorify terrorists. They wanted to push the youth of Jammu and Kashmir on the path of extremism. They wanted to instigate them to join separatist and terrorist organizations.
These people were running anti-India narrative in favor of terrorists and separatists. For this, they used to get funding from foreign agencies and terrorist organizations. Investigation established that the accused were in touch with separatists from across the border. He was also associated with many local terrorists.
In April last year, the police had conducted a search operation at the office of ‘The Kashmir Wala’.
The court considered the evidence sufficient
The State Investigation Agency (SIA) of Jammu and Kashmir is probing the matter. SIA came to know about the matter in April last year. SIA had filed the chart sheet in the court of the special judge on October 13 last year.
After hearing the arguments of SIA, the court said that the evidence gathered against the accused was sufficient and framed the charges.
Charges framed under UAPA
Fazili was charged under sections 13 and 18 of the UAPA and sections 121, 153B and 201 of the IPC. On the other hand, Fahad Shah has been charged under sections 13 and 18 of UAPA, sections 21, 153B, 35 and 39 of IPC.
The SIA carried out search operations in Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Srinagar on Saturday.

SIA today conducted search operations at 8 places in Jammu and Kashmir in terror-funding case. According to officials, more than Rs 1.5 crore was collected through crowd funding and terror sources. These were used to fuel separatist and terrorist campaigns.
This money used to reach people through separatist cleric Sarjan Barkati. Today, a search operation was also conducted at the house of Barkati’s relatives.
NIA also detained the journalist
On Tuesday, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided several locations in Jammu and Kashmir in the Terror Funding case. Searches were conducted at the houses of the suspects in Kulgam, Pulwama, Anantnag and Shopian. NIA detained a journalist Sartaj Altaf Bhat from Pulwama. He works for local news outlet Growing Kashmir.
The NIA has been conducting raids in Jammu and Kashmir for the last few days regarding the terrorist activities of the heads and members of banned terrorist organisations.
