Two construction vehicles crash to the ground in Rishon Lezion bridge collapse

Two demolition vehicles were sent crashing to the ground on Sunday when the Rishon Lezion bridge they were working on, collapsed.

Two workers were injured in the incident — a 55-year-old man was in moderate condition with a head injury, and a 36-year-old was lightly injured.

The team was apparently working to demolish the bridge when a section came down unexpectedly.

The moment of the bridge collapse was captured on the dashboard camera of a nearby vehicle.

Police reportedly detained the site’s foreman for questioning.

The Labor and Social Affairs Ministry opened an investigation into the incident.

While it remained unclear why the bridge had collapsed while the vehicles were still on it, deaths and injuries of construction workers are a frequent occurrence, largely because of poorly enforced safety codes.
