Tweet against badminton player Saina Nehwal: Actor Siddharth appears before Chennai cops on video call | Chennai News – Times of India

CHENNAI: Actor Siddharth, who landed in controversy for his tweet against badminton player Saina Nehwal, appeared before the Central Crime Branch of the Chennai police on a video call and informed the cops that he had already tendered apologies to the people concerned.
“The actor cooperated with the investigation officers during the inquiries and the process was recorded for further evaluation,” said an officer. If it is required, the cops will summon the actor for further inquiries.
Last month, Chennai police commissioner Shankar Jiwal confirmed that two complaints had been received against the actor after he had responded to Saina Nehwal’s tweet on the security breach of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Punjab.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) took suo motu cognisance of Siddharth’s tweet. NCE chairman Rekha Sharma sent a complaint to director general of police C Sylendra Babu enclosing the tweet of Siddharth. The NCW has sought the police intervention and appropriate action as per the provisions of law to refrain him from making such kind of statements in future. The Central Crime Branch registered a case and summoned Siddharth.
The cybercrime wing of Hyderabad police has also registered a case against Siddharth over his controversial tweet.
