Trichy Road Flyover Work To Wrap Up By Mid-march | Coimbatore News – Times of India

COIMBATORE: The national highways wing of the state highways department is planning to complete the Trichy Road flyover work by mid-March.
Construction of the 3.6km main stretch, which takes off at Highways Colony and ends at Sowripalayam Pirivu in Ramanathapuram, has been completed and the structure is getting a coat of paint. But a down ramp at Sungam Junction to connect Sungam-Ukkadam bypass is yet to be built.
The delay in relocating families in nearby houses is delaying ramp construction, a highways wing official said. “Though the Tamil Nadu slum clearance board has allotted housing units for the 30-odd families at Pullukaadu, the units are yet to get electricity connection. We have followed it up with the Tamil Nadu urban habitat development board and the electricity department and power connections will be given in a few days,” he said.
The work, launched in March 2019 at a cost of 250 crore, was expected to be completed by last December.
Meanwhile, commuters have urged authorities to open the completed stretch, which will also help ambulances to reach the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital quickly.
“Let highways officials take their time to complete the down ramp. The completed stretch should be opened as it will solve congestion at Sungam and Ramanathapuram junctions,” said Abdul Abassi |, a regular commuter.
