The matter is in 1997, there was a United Front government at the Centre. HD Deve Gowda of Janata Dal was the Prime Minister. His party got only 46 Lok Sabha seats. Even after this, he became the PM with the support of 13 parties. It had been 10 months since he became the Prime Minister. On this day i.e. April 11, the Deve Gowda government had to prove the vote of confidence, but they could not prove it.

In fact, the Congress, which was supporting the United Front government from outside, withdrew its support. After this the Deve Gowda government was reduced to a minority. Only 158 members voted in favor of the motion of confidence moved in the House, while 292 votes were cast against it.

After ten days of drama, the United Front government was once again formed. This time also he was supported by Congress. Only the face had changed. On 21 April 1997, Inder Kumar Gujral of the Janata Dal was sworn in as the new Prime Minister of the country. However, he too had to resign within six months.

Four PMs changed within 12 months
Lok Sabha elections were held in the country in 1996. PV Narasimha Rao was the Prime Minister of the country till 16 May 1996. But, till May 16, 1997, the country had seen four prime ministers. After Narasimha Rao, first Atal Bihari Vajpayee took oath. He had to resign after just 13 days. HD Deve Gowda took oath three days after his resignation. He too had to resign after 10 months. Inder Kumar Gujral took oath 10 days after Deve Gowda’s resignation. He too had to resign after 6 months. After this the Lok Sabha was dissolved. Gujral remained the acting PM. After the completion of the election process, in March 1998, Atal Bihari Vajpayee once again became the Prime Minister.

Oscar honor for film ‘Gandhi’

The 55th Oscar Awards ceremony took place on 11 April 1983. It was dominated by Ben Kingsley’s film Gandhi. Kingsley played the character of Mahatma Gandhi in this film. The film was nominated for an Oscar in 11 categories. The film won a total of 8 Oscar Awards. Kingsley was voted Best Actor. Apart from this, the film won Best Film, Best Director Award for Richard Attenborough, who made Gandhi and John Briley for Screenplay, Best Camera Work was also done in Gandhi. Not only this, Gandhi film also won Oscar for Best Dress and Editing.

Communist Party split into two
On this day in 1964, the Communist Party of India (CPI) split into two. The original party remained CPI as before, while the other party formed after breaking it was called Communist Party of India (Marxist) i.e. CPM. The reason for the split of the CPI was the difference of opinion between the two factions. The differences that had arisen between Russia and China regarding the communist ideology, the same differences were also between these two factions.
