TMC to not support oppn VP candidate Margaret Alva; more

The Trinamool Congress has decided to abstain from voting in the vice presidential elections as it does not agree with the way the Opposition candidate was decided without keeping the party in the loop. The decision was taken after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held a meeting with TMC MPs on Thursday.

NDA has fielded former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar as its candidate for the vice presidential election, while the Opposition parties have fielded former Rajasthan governor Margaret Alva.

The TMC has registered its protest as to how the joint Opposition candidate was announced without consulting Mamata Banerjee.

Mamata Banerjee’s personal relationship with Alva is reportedly good, but she has been upset that Congress and even the NCP didn’t inform her before announcing Alva’s name.
