A team engaged in tracking female cheetah Asha in Kuno National Park was thrashed by the villagers mistaking them for dacoits. The villagers fired first to drive the team away. When they did not run, they surrounded and attacked them. The employees were assaulted, as well as vandalized their vehicle. On the complaint of the tracking team, the police have registered a case against 15 unknown assailants.

The incident took place on Friday morning in Budakheda village under Pohri police station area of ​​Shivpuri. Actually, Asha, the female cheetah brought to Kuno National Park, has been roaming outside the park area for a long time. To monitor him, the park management has formed a team which is engaged in tracking him for 24 hours. His location was found in Budakheda village on Thursday night. On this the team had reached there.

Tracking team member Rajesh Gorakh (48) told that we found the location of female cheetah Asha near the pond of Budakheda village. At one o’clock on Thursday night, we reached the bank of the pond tracking him with the tracking device. The female cheetah Asha sat on the bank of the pond all night. That’s why me and my team members sat at a distance of 500 meters from Cheetah.

Thunderstorm started after 3 pm, due to which I, Pawan Agarwal, tracker Vikesh Gurjar and driver Hukun Yadav came and sat in the car. After some time passed, we got down from the car to check the location of the female cheetah. We started checking the location through the device.

The team first heard an aerial fire.  After this the lights of the torch were seen.  They told the people who came near that they were going to track the cheetah, but they did not agree.

At around 4 in the morning, the sound of an aerial fire was heard. Before we could understand anything, we saw the light of 10 to 15 torches. In the blink of an eye, 10 to 15 people reached near our car and surrounded us. By showing the tracking device, we told the villagers that we have come to track the female cheetah.

Told them that the location of Cheetah was found nearby, that is why they are staying here. However, the villagers did not listen to us and attacked. 3 members of the tracking team were assaulted. Not only this, the government jeep was also vandalised.

Prakash Verma, DFO, Kuno National Park, said that a complaint about the incident has been registered at Pohri police station. Here, the villagers say that in the darkness of the night, the members of the tracking team mistook them for thieves and dacoits. He was wearing an army dress. Even when asked, he did not give any answer, due to which there was a misunderstanding.
