Singapore Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon said that the Supreme Court of India is the busiest court in the world. The reason for this is the heavy caseload on the court. Menon attended the 73rd Foundation Day function of the Supreme Court in New Delhi on Saturday as the guest of honour.

Justice needs to be modernized
In his speech, Menon said that it is necessary to modernize the court process to reduce the caseload and dispense justice easily. He told that not only in India, but all the courts of the world are going through many challenges at this time. There is also a possibility of new legal challenges due to these in future. According to Menon, cases are becoming complex in today’s era. The difficulties related to technical and evidence are increasing in them.

President met Draupadi Murmu

Many former Chief Justices and judges including Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud were also involved in the programme. Chandrachud said- India’s first Chief Justice Harilal J. Kania had cleared the role of the Supreme Court in the very beginning. The court will always interpret the constitution and protect the constitutional values.

Chandrachud further said – Initially the sanctioned posts of judges in the Supreme Court were 8. Only 5-6 lawyers used to be present during the hearing. Today the sanctioned strength of judges in the court is 34. Not only the court room, even the corridor outside is full of lawyers. In the last 3 months, the Supreme Court has disposed of 12,471 cases.

Menon is the first Chief Justice of Singapore.
Sundaresh Menon is the first Chief Justice of Singapore. He was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Singapore on 6 November 2012. According to Singapore’s government website, Menon earned a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the National University of Singapore in 1986. Also, in 1991, he did his Masters in Law from Howard Law School. Menon became an advocate in Singapore in 1987 and started practicing as a counselor-at-law in New York in 1992.
