It has been told in the FIR – A procession of Hanuman Janmotsav was being taken out in the area of ​​police station Jahangirpuri. The procession started from Jahangirpuri at 04:15 PM on Saturday evening, which was to end at Mahendra Park via BJRM Hospital Road, BC Market, Kushal Chowk. The procession was going on peacefully.

As soon as the procession reached near Jama Masjid at around 6 pm, a person named Ansar came along with his 4-5 companions and started arguing with the people involved in the procession. As the debate escalated, stone pelting started on both sides, due to which a stampede broke out in the procession.

Police kept on explaining, people kept throwing stones
On getting information about the uproar, the police reached the spot and separated the two sides after persuading them to stop stone pelting and maintain peace. After a few minutes, sloganeering and stone pelting suddenly started again from both the sides. Seeing the situation deteriorating and the police force was called.

Controlled the situation by releasing tear gas shells
Despite repeated appeals by the police, one side continued to pelt stones. To control the situation, the police fired 40-50 tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. There was firing and stone pelting on the police by the mob. SI Medalal of police station Jahangirpuri got shot in the left hand. 6-7 policemen and a civilian have suffered serious injuries in stone pelting.

The rioters set a scooty on fire and vandalized 4-5 vehicles. The miscreants not only attacked the procession, but also burnt private property. Sub-Inspector Rajiv Ranjan, who lodged the FIR, said that he was also injured in the ruckus.

Stones, speeches and damaged vehicles were found on the spot
Sub-Inspector Rajesh of Jahangirpuri Police Station, Investigating Officer, said that when he reached the spot, stones, broken bottles, damaged vehicles were lying there. During interrogation of the people, it has come to know that many people were injured in the ruckus, who are getting their treatment in private hospitals.
