The Mughal ruler Akbar was born on this day i.e. on October 15, 1542 in Umarkot. Umarkot is now a part of Pakistan. You know all the stories related to Akbar. His well-planned forts, monuments and mosques still exist today. He had also built a bridge in Jaunpur, which still exists with the same strength even after 455 years.

  • Dainik Bhaskar’s team reached the royal bridge of Jaunpur built by Akbar. Look at the design of the bridge. talked to people. Scroll the pages of history. The information I got is interesting. Let’s all know.

Temples have been built on both sides of the royal bridge. A large number of people come here for darshan and worship.

There was an emphasis on collecting donations for the construction of the mosque.
The royal fort is situated on the left side of the Gomti river. It was built by Firoz Shah in 1362. Akbar used to come here often. When he used to come, Munim Khan’s food would also be present with him. The accountant’s focus was more on the extension of religion. So he used to do the work of collecting donations for the mosque. From different parts of Jaunpur, he collected a lot of money for the construction of the mosque.

Akbar was stopped by a weeping woman who went on a boating trip.
The Gomti river passes through the middle of Jaunpur district. That’s why people going from here to there first used to take the help of boat. In 1564 a woman came across the river to sell soup. He was late in returning. The boat to cross the river was gone. Now the woman had no choice. She sat there crying.

At the same time, Akbar, along with his accountant Khan Khana, had left the royal fort on a boating trip. The woman’s eyes fell on him. The woman started making a loud voice. When Akbar noticed, he asked to take the boat there. Approached and asked, what is the matter? Explaining her situation, the woman said, “I have two children at home, one is sick for which I have to carry medicine and food items. But the boat is gone. Now I can’t go.”

The woman was so angry that she said that there is no bridge to go across the river, instead of collecting funds for the bridge, your accountants are collecting donations for the mosque.

Being 455 years old, the bridge has become dilapidated. Peepal trees have grown.

Akbar said, mosque will be built later, first build a bridge
Hearing the words of the woman, Akbar looked at Munim Khan. Without waiting a minute, he said, “Build a bridge here with whatever donations have been collected for the mosque. The mosque will be built later.” Munim Khan was shocked. He said, “Huzoor, there is a pool here which is very deep, so it will not be easy to build a bridge here.” Akbar remained on his tongue. “Whatever it is, a bridge should be constructed here,” he said.

Had to change the direction of Gomti river
It was the order of Akbar, so the bridge had to be built. It was decided that first the direction of the Gomti river would have to be changed. A bridge was built on the south side of the royal bridge. Due to which the flow of the river decreased. The construction of the royal bridge began in 1564. Stones were imported from different parts of the country. The 10 pillars of the bridge were erected using things like sawdust of animal bones, powder of lime, bark of trees.

455 years ago 30 lakh rupees were spent
The royal bridge, which started in 1564, was completed in 1567. The length of the bridge is 353 feet. The width of the bridge is 26 feet. A 2 foot 3 inch mount was made. 30 lakh rupees were spent in its construction at that time. When this bridge was built, there was a collector named Omni. They made 28 gumtiyas on top of it. Earlier shops used to be in these gummis, but due to continuous increase in crowd and jam, the shops were removed. Currently the bridge is in need of repair.
