The new Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan has asked the three army chiefs to make theater commands. According to the news agency, he told the Chief of Army, Navy and Air Force that a lot of discussion has already taken place on this issue, now it is time to move forward in this direction.
With CDS General Chauhan now taking over, the creation of these commands is likely to accelerate. Also, a decision in this regard is expected to be taken soon. Let us inform that the three services of the Army have jointly conducted several studies in individual capacity as well as in order to discuss the issue of theater command in detail.
CDS will also visit Jodhpur on 3rd October. In which Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhary will also be present. Light Fighter Helicopter will be inducted in Air Force in Jodhpur. This will be General Anil Chauhan’s first visit outside Delhi after getting the new charge.
The country got the first CDS in December 2019
During the Independence Day speech on 15 August 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the creation of the post of Chief of Defense Staff. The purpose of creating the CDS was to create a theater command to help the three forces fight the war jointly. In December 2019, the late General Bipin Rawat was appointed the country’s first Chief of Defense Staff.
Bipin Rawat also insisted on making theater command
According to the information, former CDS General Bipin Rawat had also laid great emphasis on converting the three armies into modern armed and agile combat units. As per earlier plans, Western and Eastern based commands are to be created along with a Maritime Theater Command. Air Defense Command is also to be created and Ladakh region is to be left for some time.
The Air Force expressed its views against creating many of them, supporting the creation of Theater Command, which could lead to divisions of its existing properties such as fighter jets.
General Anil Chauhan became the second CDS of the country
The Government of India has appointed Lieutenant General (Retd) Anil Chauhan as the second CDS of the country. He will also serve as the Secretary of the Department of Military Affairs. The post of CDS was vacant after the death of General Bipin Rawat. General Anil Chauhan has been the Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command. He assumed this position on 1 September 2019. He has been the DGMO of the Indian Army. Lt Gen Chauhan held various positions in the Army from 1981 to 2021. He has received Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Uttam Yudh Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal.
