Thane: Stock broker duped of Rs 40 lakh by conman | Thane News – Times of India

THANE: A 32-year-old stockbroker was duped of Rs 40 lakh by an accused using the telegram app who lured the complainant by promising attractive returns on his investments.
The police said that the victim is a resident of Samata Nagar. It was in January, that through a telegram channel he saw an advertisement with a user id of the accused. The advertisement read as to invest Rs 10 lakh and get 25 percent profit.
Lured by the attractive scheme, the victim messaged on the number wherein the victim contacted and the accused told him that if he brings in more clients he shall get three per cent commission. The accused also assured that he would get the returns in his account after a month, the police said.
The accused gave a bank account number in which he was told to deposit the sum in the account number. From time to time in various installments the victim paid Rs 40 lakh, added the officer.
After investing Rs 40 lakh, the accused stopped receiving calls and blocked the mobile number of the victim. When the victim called the other numbers no one responded. Hence he realised that he has been duped by the accused, said the police officer.
A case has been registered with Wagle estate police station under section 420 (cheating) and relevant section of the information technology act. The police said that they are investigating the case and no arrests have been made so far.
The police have warned not to fall prey to such elements online.
