Thane hawker duped of Rs 2.2 lakh by e-fraudster posing as nun | Thane News – Times of India

THANE: A 26-year-old hawker lost Rs 2.2 lakh to an online cheat who posed as a Catholic nun who contacted the complainant on social media asking for ‘$50000 donations to businessmen for losses due to the pandemic’.
The police said that the complainant lives in the rental housing scheme in Manpada and he received the message from one accused who impersonated as Calista Lisa. She claimed that she is a nun at a church in Washington DC and the pope has given them $10 billion dollars and now they are distributing $50,000 to the bank accounts of the people who lost business in the pandemic. She asked for his account number to which he gave it in the lure and the fraudster sent a receipt of the $50,000 being transferred to his account.
He received call from an unknown Indian number and the woman told him that they can see $50,000 in his account and to convert it in the Indian currency he will have to pay Rs 2,35,000 to an account number the victim paid the amount and the accused then asked the victim to further pay Rs 2.2 lakh as taxes.
