Overall, this missile has the capability to destroy half the world including China and Pakistan.

Not only the timing of this test, the quality is also very special. Actually, this test has been done with new technology and equipment. In the new form, the missile will be much lighter than before. The test was conducted with the aim of testing the new techniques and equipment used in making the missile. Defense sources have been told that this trial has proved that if needed, the firepower of Agni-5 can be increased.

The country’s most powerful missile, Agri-5, is India’s long-range surface-to-surface ballistic missile, which has the power to destroy enemy targets 5000 km away. The whole of China comes in this range. Some reports claim that it can hit up to 8 thousand kilometers. This missile can fly with a nuclear warhead of 1500 kg.

Speed of 29 thousand 401 kilometer per hour
Agni-5 is India’s first and only intercontinental ballistic missile, developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). It is one of the long range missiles available with India.

  • The range of this missile is 5 thousand kilometers. Agni-5 ballistic missile capable of carrying multiple warheads simultaneously.
  • It is equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Reentry Vehicle (MIRV). That is, it can be launched for multiple targets simultaneously.
  • This missile can carry nuclear weapons up to one and a half tons. Its speed is Mach 24, ie 24 times more than the speed of sound.
  • Canister technology has been used in the launching system of Agni-5. Because of this, this missile can be easily transported anywhere.
  • The use of Agni-5 missile is also very easy, due to which it can be deployed anywhere in the country.

The weight of Agni-5 missile is 50 thousand kg. It is 17.5 meters long. A nuclear weapon weighing 1500 kg can be installed on top of it. This missile has three stage rocket boosters which fly with solid fuel. Its speed is 24 times more than the speed of sound. It covers a distance of 8.16 km in one second. It attacks the enemy at a speed of 29 thousand 401 kilometers per hour. Agni-5 can also be launched from road and rail platforms. In such a situation, it can be easily deployed in any corner of the country. Weather conditions also have no effect on it.

Total 9 tests completed so far
A total of seven successful tests of Agni-5 missile have been done so far. Its first successful test took place on 19 April 2012. After that it was tested on 15 September 2013, 31 January 2015, 26 December 2016, 18 January 2018, 3 June 2018 and 10 December 2018. Eighth and ninth testing was done in October 2021 on 15 December 2022.

India has been working on Agni series missiles since 1989. It has been prepared by DRDO and Bharat Dynamics Limited. India successfully tested it from APJ Abdul Kalam Island. DRDO is preparing to make it more powerful through different variants of Agni.

The Intercontinental Atomic Ready Ballistic Missile was test-fired from Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. This test has been done a few days after the recent skirmish between Chinese and Indian soldiers, although it was planned earlier.

Important information related to fire:

  • The nuclear-capable Agni V ballistic missile can engage targets at a range of over 5000 km.
  • The test was conducted to validate the new technologies and equipment on the missile.
  • It has been proved in the test that the missile can now hit the target at a greater distance than before.
  • The test came days after the skirmishes between Chinese and Indian troops, but was planned earlier.
  • Defense Ministry sources said this is the ninth flight of Agni-V. This was another routine test of the missile.

Do Pakistan-China have such missiles?

  • Pakistan’s Gauri-2 missile has a range of 2300 km and Shaheen-2 missile has a range of 2500 km. Pakistan is also working on Shaheen-3, which can have a range of up to 2700 km.
  • China has more range and modern technology missiles than India. China’s DF-31 missile has a range of 8000 km and DF-41 missile has a range of 12000 km.

What did China say about the missile test?
Regarding the test of Agni-5, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian has said that maintaining peace, security and stability in South Asia is in the common interest of all. We hope that all parties will make constructive efforts in this direction, he said. Lijan said that India cannot develop ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons. The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution 1172 already has clear rules in this regard.

Which UNSC resolution is China talking about?
China is talking about UNSC resolution 1172. Security Council Resolution 1172 was implemented after the June 1998 nuclear test. The resolution called for the closure of India and Pakistan’s nuclear programs and for both countries to refrain from further nuclear tests. In this, both countries were also urged to stop the development of ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons. However, India is not bound to accept this proposal.

Which countries currently have ICBMs?
At present, only a handful of countries in the world have Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles (ICBMs). These include Russia, America, China, France, Israel, Britain, China and North Korea. India will be the 8th country in the world to be equipped with this power.
