Pawan Kalyan’s party, which is in an alliance with the BJP in the neighbouring Telugu state of Andhra Pradesh, is likely to have an influence on close to 25 seats. These are the seats in the GHMC region and districts of Khammam and Nalgonda

Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan held a meeting in the national capital with the top brass of the BJP to seal the deal for battleground Telangana ahead of the upcoming polls, top sources confirmed to News18, adding that Kalyan and his party leaders returned from Delhi on Tuesday night.

A Jana Sena source told News18 that a decision on the number of seats that Kalyan’s party will contest on in the upcoming polls with BJP is likely to be finalised in the next couple of days. “Within the next two or three days, we will know what shape this alliance will take. But in principle, the two parties have decided to form an alliance,” the source said.

Last Friday, the saffron party, in its central election committee meeting, had discussed close to 55 of 119 assembly seats.

The BJP has already declared candidates on 52 seats, which includes three Lok Sabha MPs. Former BJP chief Bandi Sanjay will contest from Karimnagar, sitting Lok Sabha MP from Nizamabad Arvind Dharmapuri will contest from Koratla and Soyam Bapu Rao from Boath.

Given the revocation of suspension of controversial leader T Raja Singh ahead of the state polls, BJP has fielded him from Goshamahal. Campaign committee chief Etela Rajendran — who jumped ship to BJP last year from BRS — will contest from Huzurabad.

Top sources also told News18 that once the alliance is fine-tuned, the saffron party is likely to hold another CEC meeting to discuss and finalise its tickets for the remaining seats.

Five states go to polls next month, with the last election taking place in Telangana on November 30.
