Telangana minister KT Rama Rao urges Centre to reopen cement unit at Adilabad | Hyderabad News – Times of India

HYDERABAD: Telangana industries minister KT Rama Rao on Sunday urged the Centre to reopen the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) unit at Adilabad in the state.
Rama Rao wrote letters in this regard to Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Union minister for heavy industries Mahendra Nath Pandey.
He sought to assure the union ministers that the Telangana government will extend all incentives for the revival of the CCI.
While the Telangana government is trying to provide employment, the Central government is denying the youth of job opportunities by not reviving companies like CCI despite representations from the state government. The revival of CCI will throw open doors to thousands of employment opportunities, KTR said.
Stating that the conditions and opportunities are favourable to reopen the CCI unit, KTR sought to bring it to the notice of the union ministers that 772 acres of land was available for reopening of the unit. An additional 170 acres for CCI township and 1,500 acres for 48 million tonnes limestone deposits were also available.
There is required water and 2 KVL electricity supply available for the unit.
“Reopening of CCI unit will not just help Telangana but also neighbouring states including Maharashtra. Revival of CCI unit will help develop Adilabad in a big way. Mainly new jobs will be created for the local youth. I request the union government to immediately reopen the unit,” stated KTR in the letter.
Seeking to highlight that chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao-led TRS government is attracting major investments through TS-iPASS policy, he said the state government succeeded in bringing the Orient Cement unit to Adilabad’s Devapur with an investment of Rs 1,500 crore.
The construction industry is witnessing a boom in Telangana and the demand for cement will always be high. There is a growing demand for cement across the country with private cement companies making huge profits.
The cement manufacturer associations like ICRA and CRISIL see major construction activities in the country with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi introducing the Gati Shakti Master Plan to strengthen the national highways. And all the state governments are constantly working on developing infrastructure in their states, apart from the regular housing construction, leading to huge demand for cement,” he added.
The minister further said that India stands at rank 2 when it comes to production of cement. By increasing the cement factories in the country, India can retain its dominance in the international market.
He highlighted that there was immense scope to export cement not just to Asian countries but also to African nations in the next 10 years. The reopening of the CCI unit in Adilabad will create thousands of jobs in the region.
